ABOUT

We bought Vintage Curator House in the summer of 2010 and have spent the last 9 years lovingly restoring this gorgeous 19th Century Farmhouse.

We live in North London for the majority of the year but we have spent many blissful weeks (and sometimes months!) at the house. We have also spent many happy hours trawling the local Brocantes, antiques markets and vide-grenier looking for interesting and beautiful vintage pieces and the result is, we hope, a cool, calm, airy interior with an interesting and eclectic mix of modern and salvaged pieces. Our aim has been to preserve the best of the original features while updating the space for a modern lifestyle. The house is as lovely in the winter (imagine moody skies, wood-burning stoves and cosy throws) as it is in the sunny, warmer months, when you can stay cool in the swimming pool or relax in our shady seating area (nick-named the "coco cabana"!).

With charming interiors and plentiful outdoor spaces our house is ideal for families or a group of friends looking to kick back and enjoy some well earned peace and quiet!

Interaction with guests

We are happy to talk to you at anytime during the stay, although we are physically based in the UK. If you have any problems whilst you are staying with us please call or message us in the first instance so that we can let either our lovely housekeeper Linda know or Ian our caretaker and one of them can come and help you to sort any issues out.

If you're inspired by the interiors in our home I am happy to point you in the direction of a few hidden gems to discover in the area (or indeed help you to recreate something similar back home!).

Other things to note

There are no shops in the village (which is wonderfully quiet) but there is a lovely village nearby, La Calliere, with a great little supermarket, a butchers and a boulangerie. A bread van visits the house (from the local boulangerie in St Martin Lars) four times a week. She beeps her horn (rather loudly!) at around 11.30am and you can go and get bread from her and order croissant in advance. She also carries eggs if you want them. She will stop outside the gates to our house if you flag her down.

REVIEWS

This house is phenomenal! The pictures don't even do it proper justice! Great place for people of all ages with so much space and freedom. Sam was always on hand to answer any questions. I would highly recommend a visit and we will definitely be returning for longer. John Paul and Paula

We were a group of 12, ranging in age from 16 - 60 and we all found plenty to charm and occupy us. The house is absolutely lovely and easy to spend time in and we agree with other reviewers that the photos don't do it justice. We could have happily spent much longer enjoying its comforts and elegance. Less obvious highlights were the herb garden, the fruit trees, the hare, the hoopoe, the hammock, volleyball in the pool, chilled rose wine by the pool on a blue checked cloth, darts and pools tournaments, taking turns to cater for 36 meals a day and grazing in between (!), cycling, the trampoline, watching Wimbledon, the list is endless. Don't expect to be able to walk to a shop, but do expect not to want to leave the house and its gardens. Having said that, it's an easy drive to Les Sables d'Olonne or La Rochelle. Samantha and Linda were really helpful at every stage from booking to arrival to checkout. Sian

We had an unforgettable family weekend in the beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable home of Samantha. The setting is beautiful and very peaceful. We had the chance to enjoy a splendid weather and so we could fully enjoy the beautiful pool of the property. Samantha could not do enough for us and did everything to make us feel "at home". No sooner had we left than we already imagined, with enthusiasm, to be able to return there next year. Another huge thank you to Samantha! Julie

Sam is super helpful and kind and the house is fabulous! The design is stunning and the quality of the finnish is lovely. Good quality appliances and a well stocked kitchen. The Swimming pool and pool house are fabulous. A real luxury! Thank you for having us! Sarah-Jane

Fabien
